Bay City Industrial Supply’s history can be traced back to 1949 when Mr. “Bud” Phipps began his career at a small independent distribution company called “Bay City Bearing”. With a dedicated and enthusiastic staff, Bay City Bearing thrived and grew to lead the power transmission market in Southern California. When the company was purchased by an out-of-state firm, Bud oversaw the opening of the first branch of King Bearing Inc. With a “Can-Do” mentality and commitment to customer care, Bud oversaw the opening of more than a dozen King Bearing branches throughout Southern California. Raising the bar in customer service was always at the forefront of their mission.

In 1980, Mr. Dave Phipps began his distinguished career in the power transmission field by joining King Bearing as an outside sales representative. Over the next eleven years, he consistently established himself as a top performer within the company. Following King Bearing’s acquisition by a national chain distributor in 1991, Mr. Phipps made the strategic decision to venture out and establish his own independent company in Orange, California.

Driven by rapid growth, the company soon outgrew its original footprint and relocated to a larger, state-of-the-art facility in Anaheim. The enterprise continued its upward trajectory in when our leadership team spearheaded by Mr. Clint Barnes and Mr. Ryan Phipps successfully launched a second location in Long Beach, California, in 2011. Maintaining this momentum, Bay City expanded its regional footprint with the opening of a third location in Ontario, California, in 2023.

Today, we are proud to build upon this legacy of growth and excellence by announcing our newest location, set to open in San Diego, California, in January 2027.
